Summer 07 Uganda Vision Trip
Overview
On August 21st 2007, 12 young Seattle-based volunteers will travel to Mafubira for one month representing Tusubira. Divided into three teams, the volunteers will assess opportunities to develop healthcare, education, and other community programs that will benefit orphans and the village as a whole.
What is the project?
The team will be located in Mafubira, Uganda. Uganda is located in East Africa and its capital is Kampala. Uganda has a population of almost 30 million and the national languages are English, Swahili and Luganda. The village of Mafubira, along with the rest of the country, is fighting a war against the devastations caused by HIV/AIDS. In the village of Mafubira, thousands of children have lost their parents to AIDS, and many women have lost their husbands. These children and widows have been left vulnerable to further devastations of poverty and disease as they struggle to obtain basic needs such as adequate sources of income, food, and education.
How will the team be organized?
Our team will be split into three main projects: healthcare, education, and research. The main goal of all three teams is to minister to the people through building relationships. Building relationships will be an integral element of our ministry. The healthcare team will work with the STAO staff members in order to gain a further understanding of the effects of major diseases such as AIDS and Malaria throughout the village and helping with education of healthcare issues. The education team will be working with the kids, teaching English and developing relationships with the children of the village. The research team (RT) will be working with the adults, primarily the widows, asking for what they need the most. The RT will be consulting ways to develop sustainable agriculture, income generating projects, and meet the immediate needs in most effective way.
How can you be involved?
We would like to invite you to be part of the project by joining our support team! First, we need a team of people supporting us in prayer. Second, as a team we need to raise $27,600 by August 10th in order to go. You can help by donating via PayPal.
