How Tusubira Started
In the summer of 2006, Jenny, Kate, and Sarah visited Uganda and spent 2 months working with an aid work organization in Mafubira, a village in Southeastern Uganda. Our hearts were immeasurably broken as we built relationships with the many orphans, widows, and the incredibly vulnerable children we met; lives that had each been devastated by poverty and the effects of HIV/AIDS.
Upon returning to the States, God put in our hearts the conviction to start an organization in Uganda to help cultivate sustainable income generation projects, healthcare, and education, starting with Mafubira.
Tusubira means “we have hope” in Lusoga, a language commonly spoken in the village of Mafubira. The effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic causes many challenges there, yet hope remains through the increasing development of the village and its people.
