STAO Community Center
This past year, Tusubira has been supporting the construction of the new building within STAO’s premises. Originally, this additional building was intended to house more children at STAO. However, after meeting during our visit this past summer, both Tusubira and the STAO staff agreed that the best use of the new building would instead be to serve as a community center for STAO and for the greater village of Mafubira.
In the coming months, Tusubira will be working with STAO to establish and support the first computer lab in the village of Mafubira – complete with internet access and equipped to teach computer classes to children living at STAO as well as citizens of the Mafubira community! Computer knowledge will make it possible for those seeking employment to become more competitive in the job market, and will also help prepare the children living at STAO for higher education.
Additionally, STAO hopes to use a portion of the new building to serve as a space for a health clinic that will provide medical care for the village of Mafubira. Most of Mafubira’s residents struggle to access adequate healthcare and the new clinic will work to provide treatment for Malaria, Typhoid, as well as medication for those living with HIV/AIDS throughout the village.
